Tatted snowflake

Sometimes you need to make something small in the middle of a big project.... and you always need more snowflakes for Christmas ;)

Tatted oval doily progress

Less posts these days, but this is quite a big project (aka time and thread consuming,  not really in size). 4 days to make this trefoil round. And now I started the last one...

Doily back from UFO town

Ages ago, I started this oval doily in size 30 thread. It was so long ago that I had cut the ongoing thread to get the shuttles back and use them on other projects, and this was way before the long tatting hiatus.

So I had to tat about 1/3 of the last round, and only at the end did I notice that I had worked the wrong way. But honnestly, the knots are so fine that you don't really see the difference.

I still have 2 rounds of trefoils to do...

Space dyed classic doily finished

I've been silent for a little while, but it was because I didn't want to post pictures daily with just a few more rosettes each time. So here is the final picture, after blocking. It was a nice doily to tat, the only thing was the 16 rosettes around. The nightmare was all those threads to tie and hide !

Now I'm tatting some more square motifs...

Square tatted motif

Tatting is a great craft to do on the go. All you need is shuttles in a small box, and scissors.  But what happens when you tat a doily, and it doesn't fit the box anymore ?

Time for a little motif ! This 8ne is still from the New Tatting book. I will have to make several joined together to make a doily or something.

Doily update : 5 more rosettes to go...

Doily update

Ah, glorious times, I post about once a day... from the lovely galaxy tab I use for almost everything. No, it doesn't cook toasts yet... I'm also enjoying Instagram more and more. It's so much fun !

Anyway,  this is a picture update, I'm on the last round of the doily, and it's basically many mini motifs joined to the centre. Many opportunities to do it wrong.... so I have to pay special attention. It also looks like it's flattening by itself somehow...

Space dyed classic doily progress

Here are pictures of my progress on the doily from the book New Tatting I really enjoy this, it's so lovely But after round 5, you can see that it's a bit ruffled Now I need to make something like 16 rosettes joined around the doily.

Tatted hex doily

I was playing with flower motifs, joining as I went, and voilà,  an hexagonal oily !

It's very close to the hydrangea doily in the book "New tatting", bit it's just chance.

New tatting is a book I bought yesterday on google play. I usually prefer to get the paper version of craft books, even if I have many patterns on my tablet. But I didn't want to wait, plus I always have my tablet or my phone close at hand, so it's like carrying the book wherever I go.

More on that tomorrow, with the current project (a pattern from the book, of course !)

Circle of crowns

This morning I made this little snowflake motif, "Circle of crowns", that is in Jon Yusoff snow flake book.

See all her lovely stuff on her blog, Tat-a-Renda. This was a bit technical for me, with lock joins and chains in weird directions, but I enjoyed the fact that it was done in one round !

Oval doily for Mom's birthday

Here is a little crochet interlude....

When I make gifts for people I know come lurking about my blog, I postpone posting about it. Yesterday (well, actually today, but we celebrated yesterday as it was Sunday) was my Mom's birthday, and I made her an oval doily for her console in the hall. As you can see the decorations around it, I was done for Easter !

It was a bit difficult because The original pattern was way smaller. I had to add rounds and rounds of chaines and stuff. Then blocking made marvels ;)

See you later for more tatting adventures...

Cobweb dolly done !

And just in time for mother's day too ! The long chains are a nightmare,  and blocking it helped a little bit,  but I am not 100 % satisfied. It was made in size 20 thread, and only measures 10 cm wide. Small, small doily.

I went back to play around with motifs, you will see that next time !

Cobweb doily tat along progress

As I'm getting back to tatting, I wanted to get requinted with the tatters and the tatting community. In Tatters has moved and is now Craftree, so there I go to see what's new with tatters. And I see there is a tatting along doily, and I joined it !

It's quite a simple doily, although the fact that there are loads of ds on rings and chains make it a bit awkward in the end.

I hope blocking will help solve the problem. I made it white because I intend to give it as Mother's day gift to my grandma, and she doesn't like coloured doilies. And yes, I celebrate my grandma on Mother's day and not grandma's day, because I come from a time when grandma's day didn't exist yet, so... we are creatures of habit ;)

Here are pictures of the doily are round two and round three.

Tatting progress

I'm tatting motifs I hope to turn into a small bag. I noticed that these days most tatters are making jewellery, bookmarks or doilies. If you are making original tatted pieces, give me a shout !

If I can make a bag out of it, I will make a doily. My mom and my grandma would give it a good home ;)

En ce moment je fais des motifs en frivolité, afin de faire un petit sac, ou un napperon, je ne sais pas encore.

Crochet Mandala

Here is a crochet mandala I made last month and forgot to post. My mother in law gave me some cotton samplers she got from a client of hers or something. Now I have no clue what to do with it ;)

-------------------------------

Voici un mandala au crochet que j'avais oublié de poster le mois dernier. Ma belle mère m'avait donné ces mini pelotes de coton qu'elle a eue à une de ses clientes. Et maintenant je ne sais pas vraiment quoi en faire.

And the finished piece is....

A phone bag ! I made it big enough to slip the smartphone in a hard protection thingy. So the purpose of the pouch isn't to protect the phone, but to make it look pretty, and to be able to hang it on a chair or wherever. I get a "waouh" effect each time I take my phone from my bag, because nobody has ever seen something like this.

The pattern is simply 6 petals flowers made with one shuttle, and with a bead at the base of each ring. Link the flowers to one another as you go. The handle is a sucession of split rings. And voilà !

Now I'm playing around with other motifs that would make other sort of pouches...
