Happy Halloween !!!!

Halloween is a mistreated event here in France. Most people call it "just commercial", because we didn't go trick or treating as kids (For us it was boring cemetary visits on Nov 1st, often under the rain, for All Saints day) and we discovered Halloween on american tv shows. But I think it's just a return to a deep and ancient tradition, I love pumpkins ;)

Halloween is a serious matter for DBF. He loves monsters and horror, and any excuse for eating sugar and watching horror movies is good. So we decorated, and I made this little pumpkin from this pattern.

This year I'm actively making Christmas stuff and pouches for the Christmas fair, so I felt the urge of making something just for us. And Halloween related !!!

I knitted a lot, as you can see, my tree of snowmen is getting very crowded !!!!

And here is a picture of the owl media socks I'm making. I love owls. Knitting is neat, the socks adapt to any phone size !!!

------------------------------------

Getting ready for the Christmas Fair

At the moment I'm actively knitting for the Christmas fair in December. Pouches (and I realised now that I haven't taken pictures of the owl sock I'm making in all colours, that's typical of me), candle holders, and snown people for the Christmas tree.

DBF told me that I have to advertise the venue, so here it is :

I know that for most people this is a long shot, but if you happen to be in the North of France, in Lille, you are welcome to come and say hello. There's a metro station next to the place. Anyway you can just contact me for details ;)

You never know, if you live in England and want to spend a week end Christmas shopping in France, Lille is the place !

Anyway, here are pictures of the snow people and a basket full of pouches I knitted. The tree is an old appetisers presentation (you pick cheese and cherry tomatoes on the branches) from mom, and I think it's perfect for those little guys !

-----------------------------------------

Another owl

It looks like an invasion ! This time I used my usual pouch pattern and added an owl....

----------------

First owl on ipod sock

I just had to make this ipod sock from this pattern. I just got obsessed by cable made owls. I don't know if it's because we are close to Halloween or what, but I think they are neat. So I checked different patterns to see how they are made and such. This pattern has the added advantage to be started in double knit, so there is no sewing at all !!!

------------------

Small items are fast to knit, so.... I have a few pictures to show. First the black pouch, still in the media pouch collection. I just love to knit those.

Then I made fingerless gloves from this pattern. I added fingers just because I love them, so if you want to do the same, I added the explanation on Ravelry. When I showed them to DBF's sister, she didn't take them off, so she's modelling them. As I'm not 300% satisfied with them, I just gave her the mits. It will force me to make new ones ;)

DBF's mom and I should have a stand at the local Christmas market, and that's why I'm making pouches and so. And so she gave me some silver and golden threads for my candle holders. And this means... experimentation again. I have to admit that these days I'm good. I write all the patterns of the objects I make in a notebook. So it's a pleasure to experiment with things.

It was my first time knitting metal thread, but I was lucky. I took my 3mm dpns, and it was the right size for knitting lace. Just a little test to see how many stitches I had to cast on, and I was on my way, trying an easy lace pattern from my notebook. I'm surprised how stretchy the fabric is, when the thread seems a bit coarse....

---------------------------------------------

Pouch pouch pouch !!!!

This is turning into an obsession. I made media pouches of different sizes. After all, I need one for my PDA, my DS, etc....

First, the blue mini pouch, half the size of the first blue pouch. This is for phones. Of course, my Nokia is the standard old one, and it's just too short, but newer phones fit right in.

Then an orange pouch for my PDA. I love orange.

And finally a mauve DS pouch. And here you see that the hole at the top of the pouch is useful to put the strap through. It might not be absolutely necessary, but it's a classy detail ;)

-------------------------------

Needles smocking....

Less Cityville, more knitting... the equation is simple. Also, making smaller objects is very satisfying, even if they take at least 2 hours to make !

I made an experiment : knitting an amigurumi kimidoll. I used my crocheted pattern and translated to knitting on double pointed needles, and voilà !

I also made this media pouch. I say media because you can use it for ipod, smartphones, cameras, etc.... On this picture my PDA is modelling. Yes, my PDA... DBF is mocking me because he thinks I'm the only one who still have such a dinosaur device. Mock all you want, but I love reading books on it, and its hand writting recognition is very good, so I can write on it like a note pad. Those new touch devices with finger use are just not precise enough for me.

I knitted the pouch all in one go. Started in round from the bottom, and transfered to straight needles for the flap. There's a hole on top to add a strap, and the button hole is also integrated in the knitting. So all the sewing needed is the bottom and a button. I added a crocheted flower I had in stash.

---------------------------------------------------

Smells like Christmas....

Here are the projects of the week.... they are sort of Christmas related.

I played around lace knitting patterns to make those candle holders. The trick is to know how many stitches I need to cover the glass, as I knitted in round !!!

DBF thinks the blue ones aren't the ideal colour for Christmas, what do you think? What colours would you choose?

Still in the spirit of knitting lace in round, I made a little sachet. At the moment I'm trying it again, with thread.

And finally a little elf.

---------------------------
